The Rhodes Scholarships, established in 1903, are the oldest international scholarship programme in the world, and one of the most prestigious. Administered by the Rhodes Trust in Oxford, the programme offers 100 fully-funded Scholarships each year for postgraduate study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom – one of the world’s leading universities.

Application procedure:
You must submit your application online, along with all supporting documents, by 11.59pm. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) on September 15, 2021.

In order to prepare to apply, you should carefully read the General Information, especially those found under the Scholarships tab on the Rhodes House website, the Rhodes Scholarship duration requirements, the information in this document and the pages of the Council. The selection committee can select up to 25 candidates after the initial exam. All successful candidates must be available for an interview (to be conducted via Zoom or Microsoft Teams or Skype or WhatsApp video or any other appropriate platform) within 24 hours of being notified of their status. Among the finalists, the selection committee can select up to 15 finalists.
Selected candidates will be invited to a social engagement (a dinner with the selection committee and other finalists) and a final interview. You must be available to attend both in person, as no changes can be made to the date, time or mode of these events. Interviews will take place in Accra or Lagos on Saturdays between November and early December. No candidate will be selected without an interview. Travel expenses to West Africa and accommodation in Accra or Lagos will be covered. Scholar-Elect Rhodes 2022 will be announced immediately after all finalists have been interviewed.

Scholarship Award:
Fee + £ 15,900 / year scholarship

Eligibility criteria:
Nationality / Citizenship: Citizens of the above countries.
Education / Place of Residence: You must have lived in one or more of the above countries for at least 5 of the last 10 years.
Age: As of October 1, 2021, you must be at least 18 years old and have not reached your 25th birthday (there are few exemptions depending on your study course or year of graduation).
Academic Performance: The highest classification awarded by a university, you must have a bachelor’s degree (usually a bachelor’s degree) from the university. Distinguished for first class honors, or for medical, dentistry, or pharmacy courses.
English: A sufficiently high level of English is required to meet Oxford University’s English proficiency requirements (higher levels listed).
